About MISA Canada
MISA/ASIM Canada ( Municipal Information Systems Association of Canada/Association des S ystéms d’Information Municipale du Canada) is an emerging not-for-profit association composed of provincial, inter-provincial or territorial associations of municipal government representatives and others, engaged in, or interested in, the development and operation of municipal information systems.
Founding Members
Representatives of five municipal IT organizations have signed a memorandum of agreement to form and promote a national association that will serve as their common voice.
The five organizations are:
- Municipal Information Systems Association, British Columbia ( MISA BC), including the three Territories
- Municipal Information Systems Association, Prairies (MISA Prairie)
- Municipal Information Systems Association, Ontario (MISA Ontario)
- Réseau de l’Informatique Municipale du Québec (RIMQ)
- Municipal Information Systems Association, Atlantic Canada (MISA Atlantic)

Mission
MISA/ASIM Canada is the collective voice for its member associations on national issues affecting effective delivery of municipal services using information and technology.
Objectives
- To be recognized as the national voice of its member associations in matters relating to the effective delivery of municipal services, using information and technology.
- To represent member associations in discussions with the Government of Canada and other national or international bodies and associations in matters affecting municipal or inter-jurisdictional delivery of government services, using information and technology;
- To facilitate sharing of information, resources and services among its member associations;
- To provide a forum for the exchange of information, skills and experiences about information technology issues among Canadian municipalities, other levels of government, service providers and related organizations;
- To reduce costs, improve service and enhance quality within Canadian municipalities by promoting leadership and best practices in the effective and efficient use of technology;
Principles
- MISA/ASIM Canada attempts to reach consensus on all relevant issues, but will still represent the positions of minority stakeholders if consensus cannot be achieved.
- MISA/ASIM Canada develops policy and position statements on relevant national issues that fairly represent the views of its member associations.
- MISA/ASIM Canada participates in national committees dealing with municipal or inter-jurisdictional delivery of government services, using information and technology.
- MISA/ASIM Canada cooperates and collaborates with other organizations on matters affecting municipal or inter-jurisdictional delivery of government services, using information and technology.
- MISA/ASIM Canada provides services to its member associations only where there is agreement to do so. Costs for such services will be shared equitably among the member associations, in accordance with an agreed formula. Participation in such shared services is voluntary for each member association and no costs will be apportioned to non-participating member associations.
- MISA/ASIM Canada will depend upon its members for resources, assistance or cooperation required to carry out its activities.
- Decisions or policy positions adopted by MISA/ASIM Canada are not necessarily binding on member associations, and MISA/ASIM Canada is not necessarily bound by decisions or policy positions adopted by any member association.
- MISA/ASIM Canada activities shall be consistent to the fullest extent possible with the operating principles of its member associations.
